Janice was born and raised in Gresham, Oregon, she moved to Washington in 1979.
She has three sons (from a previous marriage), Russell, Warren, and Everett Brough.
After meeting and marrying Ray Damitio, she became involved in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) ProRally, first as a videographer, then in 1991,as a driver. She first competed in a 72 Datsun 510, and for 3-4 years, slowly learned the ropes of racing, having never set foot near a race car before. After many wrecks, near rolls, and eventually a few first place finishes, she moved up to the expert division and also inherited a 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac, along with a woman co-driver, Amity Trowbridge. The first year of competing in the National 4WD Production class they placed second in the U.S., the first women to do so. They also won the Manufacturers award for Toyota. Janice was one of only three women drivers in the sport that year.
Janice and Amity won the SCCA Northern-Pacific Division 4WD Championship Overall three times, and the SCCA National/Divisional Run-Off Championships Overall twice. Their motto was "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".... which they did, at every opportunity!!
In 2000, after selling the Celica, while awaiting the building of another rally car, Janice won the SCCA Northern Pacific Division Co-Drivers 4WD Championship, co-driving for Kevin Pennington. One of the highlights from that time was verbally guiding a blind-folded Kevin, as he drove backwards through the rally sprint course at the ORV Park.
She also spent a year co-driving for Jonathan Ryther in a Subaru, she had a great time with the "Knight Steel Racing Team" traveling throughout the U.S. competing in the SCCA National ProRally series.
Janice still competes occasionally as a driver, but in recent years has mostly concentrated on helping Ray organize the Doo Wop Rally series, when time permits, she helps with other racing events, and has "paced" a couple of local races.
Ray recently took Janice on her first "Space A" international Air Force cargo plane trip to Sardinia, and looks forward to many more such excursions in the future.
Janice is on the organizing committee for "Saginaw Days" at the Tavern, and also has two horses, several dogs and a few cats to contend with at home, so time is at a premium in her life. Janice does much of the ordering of Brooklyn Tavern clothing products, helps Ray with special events at the tavern, and bartends when she can. She specializes in luncheons for groups who come to the Brooklyn Tavern for special occasions and recently prepared lunch for 40!
Janice invites you to come visit the "Brooklyn Tavern". Bring a happy attitude and an open mind!
