Ma & Pa Bucking

Contestants will work in teams of two,one male and one female. Each team will saw through the log and when the chip hits the ground .. time stops.

Single Bucking

Contestants will saw through the log using a crosscut saw buried to the top of the teeth. Time stops when the chip hits the ground.

Double Bucking

Two men, one on each end of a hand bucking saw , will slice off an end of the log. Time will stop when the sawn off end hits the ground

Standing Block Chop

This event is roughly the same as Log Chopping. The only difference is the log is vertical rather than horizontal. The event starts at the sound of a gun or whistle. The entrant must cut halfway through one side, then turn around and complete the back side. Time starts when the signal sounds and ends when the block hits the ground.

Horizontal Block Chop

Contestants will stand stride an alder log and chop through the log. About one half way through, the chopper will reverse position on the log to finish. Time will star with signal.

Choker Setting

Contestants will 'shag' a 3/4" choker over a dfesignated course and set it on a predetermined log, attaching the knobs into the bell for a qualifying time. Choker must be inside the log stand.

Axe Throwing

A round target has been cut from the end of a log. Painted with circles, the smallest is the bullseye. The center of the target is 60" from the ground. Contestants must thrown an axe from a distance of 20'. Bullseye is a value of 5 points, second is 4 and so forth. Highest possile score is 15 points. Contestants receive 3 throws. Axe must weigh 2.5 lbs or more and have a 24" handle.

Chain Saw Bucking

This is a contest between loggers making cuts off ends of logs using chain saws. Falling and bucking timer is a tough job, requiring strength, savvy and skill. A good faller will fall trees so that they don't break ad as safely as possible. The bucker must b e able to cut so that the logs scale as much as possible; so tht he makes the best grade of trees. Lots of noise and confusion here.

Pole Climbing

Contestants will climb a tall spar tree and ring the bell at the top for a timed race. The climber starts will one spike on the tree and one on the groiund. Time stops when the climber reaches the top and rings the bell.

Pole Falling

In this event, 11 alder trees will be felled. They are approximately 36' tall. In front of each pole is a beer can which must be smalshed for a blue ribbon. Second and third place will be determined by the distance from the pole. Pole number 11 is upside down, which presents a challenge.

Obstacle Choker Setting

Contestants will start at the base of the pole which is perced over the log pont. Contestants will set a choker between designated points on opposite ends of the logs. Time ends when contestants eturn to the base of the log.

Log Rolling

Using a fir log, contestants will eliminate through three falls, using a variety of tactics.
